ECM - Course | "South American Camelids, these strangers"
Saturday 30 November at the offices of the Board of Veterinarians of Bolzano was held the first Italian convention dedicated to Veterinarians only on medical care of South American Camelids.
As sponsor of the Alto Adige Veterinarians, Sanifarm, has been supporting these kinds of initiatives.
54 Veterinarians from Italy and Austria attended the convention, and 3 speakers intervened:
a Swiss professor working in Bern and two Italian ones with operating site in Saudi Arabia and Wales.
The intention of the organizing Veterinarians, Dr. Giulia Giovanelli and Dr. Alexander Tavella, was to set in motion a training path for veterinarians regarding these "strange animals", increasingly more popular but still little known in Italy from a medical standpoint and in terms of handling.
Llamas and alpacas have many aspect in common with cattle, but as many differences.
Topics ranged from diagnostic techniques to the nutrition of these species, from reproduction to orthopaedics.
With the hope of bringing veterinarians closer to this subject and filling a knowledge gap in an expanding field.
